You'll develop critical research skills, mastering data analysis, mapping and fieldwork, while also learning to synthesize complex information effectively. Our areas of emphasis – including environmental policy, geospatial and quantitative analysis, outdoor leadership, river studies and sustainability – equip you with the knowledge and practical abilities to make a tangible difference in the world.
Upon graduation, you will demonstrate proficiency in:
- Applying fundamental concepts from the life, social and physical sciences to promote sustainability, conservation, restoration and effective environmental planning and management
- Identifying and implementing appropriate tools and techniques to collect, visualize, analyze and communicate environmental data
- Effectively combining diverse concepts and skills to solve contemporary environmental challenges
Transfer students: If you have or are intending to transfer to VCU and major in environmental studies, you must satisfy all major course requirements and complete a minimum of 15 credits of VCU biology courses at the 300-, 400- or 500-level.
